Most of us are paranoid about DNA testing for various reasons such as a fear that insurance companies will use that information to deny us coverage, etc. It's similar to the problem associated with mental health issues, people are often afraid to admit they may have a problem because they're afraid that once you're labeled as having a mental illness then that label will get stuck on you forever just like a criminal record. I think DNA testing is probably the next step if the medical field wants to improve health diagnoses and outcomes if we can figure out some way to overcome our paranoia about it. Most of us can't list the major illnesses that our close relatives have had let alone keep a record of environmental factors that may have played a role in our long term health (despite all the TV lawyers promoting an economic windfall if we were associated with this herbicide or tainted water supply). Linking DNA profiles to specific treatment outcomes would likely point to more effective medical treatments in the long run and that would also include alternative treatment plans instead of relying on personal testimonials such as Bill's neighbor Fred regained a full head of hair by rubbing his scalp with a drug that his vet gave him for his dog.
