Redoak seems to live in the only area in Canada where Socialist medicine works. He repeatedly is very happy and can't seem to find any problems. I guess conditions vary from location to location.

The Canadian system first and foremost prescribe pills to relieve symptoms and if that works you will take those pills until you need more pills. That is why Prescription drugs are cheaper here. A deal struck with Big Pharma in the beginning.

If you have a household disposable income over $100,000 then you pay in tax the equivalent to what a top US insurance plan costs. Everything in the Canadian system is a rigid structure. First diagnosis at family GP or Emergency room. Prescription's usually the norm. If a specialist is required an appointment is made. Some diagnosis like cancer you will be prioritized. They will delay an early cancer diagnosis treatment to allow more serious cases to have priority. Usually no or very little options to pick specialist. Some specialists can take years to see.
Current wait times at Ontario emergency rooms is 22 hours.

I could go on and on about the delays and not even mention that in Canada there is no difference between what Dr.s are in rural Ontario vs big city hospitals. I'm talking about top of the class vs those that just passed.

Last I read we are at 1 bureaucrat to every 1 first line worker.

No malpractice as you cant sue the Gov. No recourse when you encounter nurses or staff that are rude or outright lazy. Unionized and no incentive to really go the extra mile.

NOW there are always exceptions and there are some very good people in the system but it has become a money guarantee at union wages so lots are in it just for the money.

Currently waiting 11 months for a total knee replacement and because I don't have any underlying medical conditions my surgery is 1 year quicker then someone that requires an overnight stay. But I know several cases where people needing medical care got quicker attention because their wives worked in a Dr. office or they knew someone in that medical field. So there is a 2 tier system just not what you think.

I have a son in the US with 3 children. He has insurance through work. After experiencing both systems he said " Dad I had always heard you talk about the inefficiencies in the Canadian system but didn't realize how bad it was until I experienced the US one. He will never return based on medical and taxes.

Its Socialism at its finest and every year it gets worse. We are still trying to prove Socialism works where so many have proven it doesn't. My previous GP told me as we were friends as well that if there was a $25 diagnosis fee it would reduce his workload by half.

Flame away but just make sure you tell how many years your wife has been working for the Canadian medical system first.

100% our socialist health care system is not what our talking heads say it is..... so much waste and the wait times are horrendous, I could go on and on...
