It's been a while since soils class, but a quick Google says very fine silt can take 7 hours up to 24 hours to settle. It depends on how fine yourself is, or if it's actually clay. Either way, it seems like your pond is too small. I'm not an engineer though. It seems like you might want something that will hold a day or 2 of water to allow it to settle out enough. Maybe wider and deeper, instead of long and shallow, to slow down water speed allowing into settle easier.[/QUOTE
This here is your answer. Google settling pond design for placer gold miners. We deal with setting solids out of water big time in 100% recycle systems. You will never screen sediment out of water. It needs time to settle on it's own.
The larger the particle the faster it settles. Sand settles in seconds. Fine clay takes days to settle out.
