Dec 15 is still pretty early but I would guess there might be enough ice to walk on. Right now we have had 2 weeks of freezing weather, some nights down to 2*f, but there is only a couple inches of ice. I usually don't venture out until after Christmas as the ice is pretty consistently 12 inches thick by then.
