While the spin does stabilize the bullet there's also the competing forces of drag on the front and behind the bullet. Just like an airplane wing having the control surfaces on the trailing edge the vacuum drag from behind is sufficient to prevent the bullet from falling nose up and landing on it's side.

While most everyone focuses on the tip of the bullet the rear is where irregularities make a larger impact. Not only as the base exits the muzzle but in flight. Don't know if I could find it on the internet but I read an article years ago in print on testing a batch of bullets to find what makes thing go bad. They snipped the tips off at odd angles and it had less result on changing Point of Impact (poi) than a slight scratch to the last part to leave the barrel. Flattening a spot on the boat tail also results in a wild shot more than tip alterations.
