By the time it got to target the bullet was around 1/2 the speed of sound. So that sound wave was starting to catch up, or perhaps already had. Be interesting to see velocity over time and where sounds catches up with the projectile.
More realistically our ears would never hear the shot 4 miles away, it would be too attenuated.
