I've done it, actually I cut one end off a cable and put a 3.5mm "headphone" plug on that end, to run another camera off the DVD input.
A proper job would be soldering, heat shrink insulating each wire (i'm talking really small heat shrink, not whats on the shelf at NAPA), then a big heat shrink over all 4 wires.
Splicing CabCam cable?
