Subject: JD 612 cornhead help needed

N IL
We are replacing the drive sprockets of the gathering chains on a JD 612 head (2011, so the original design) and are having a hard time getting them off the hex shaft.

They have worn into the hex of the sprocket and are now locked on. We have tried holding the shaft and turning the sprocket to line up the shaft with the hex with no luck. We also tried using the air hammer when trying to turn them against each other and that didn’t help.

What’s the trick to doing this? I don’t want to torch and wreck any seals in the gearbox.

Thanks for the help.
