NE IA | Huge breech of biosecurity for anyone who feeds pigs around here. Only 1 option if pig gets out and it doesnt involve the pig going back into the barn.
On the note of the pig swimming in the pit, the sow unit I get my pigs from had a tornado come through and take out one of their farrowing barns and moved it enough for slats to fall into the pits and sows and piglets went with. This was in December so pits were pretty empty. Being the good caretakers they are they went after the pigs and they ended up pulling pedv out when they pulled the pigs out and the whole farm broke. Biosecurity was way down on their list as you can imagine when they were trying to move a few day old pigs and sows after the building on top of them blew away. | |
