That is a lot of corn silage and corn. Is there much corn in the silage? Is it old and spoiled? What is the bunk waste like? I'll get they are nosing all that ground hay out looking for the candy corn and good silage bits. Even then, if this silage is old, or exposed to air its likely all the sugars have been respirated off and you've lost your feed value. Otherwise you'd have some fat fat cows.
That just seems like an impossible amount of DM for them to get every day, they must be wasting a lot. IDK how big these cows are, but aren't you supposed to aim for around 25-27lbs of dry matter a day?
I do fall bred cows, will start calving here in Oct. Right now they are in drylot getting about 20-25lbs corn silage, 7 lbs alfalfa hay, and free choice CRP grass hay. Even then I think I'm spoiling them, and they are wasting a lot of the grass hay, I need to find a more efficient bale feeder.
