Subject: RE: Collecting calf tissue samples out on pasture

Eastern NE KS
I have sampled and then tagged 160 new born calves over the past 2 springs. I used the allflex tissue sampler and then tagged with a one piece ztag. This is in the calving pasture. Works for me. I'm sure I could adapt to the ztag tissue system but have no drive to change.

In addition, calves are navel dipped, vaccinated with 3-way, weighed and about 2/3 bulls are banded. I usually have 2 cows per year that seem miffed at me. If that get out of hand, processing is delayed 12 or 24 hours. Coyotes are more common last few years so I leave my dog at the barn. I carry my gear on the ATV. It would hard to carry it all horseback.
