WCIL | Oh come on, the excessive rain we had in April and May will carry our crops all the way into September through these hot and windy days making for a 200 bu corn crop and 70 bu beans, instead of 250 and 80. All of us I-staters have 17 feet of black topsoil with tiles that never run dry. Don't you know that we don't need any rain during the summer and corn will still reach full potential? **SARCASM** But seriously, it's pretty dry and I think the top end HERE has been knocked down between that and some green snap we had a couple weeks ago (with a few tenths of rain). For the most part we look pretty good here yet, but some rain is needed to keep from getting down into insurance territory. But like you, I'm not going to say it for fear of crying wolf. We aren't there yet and have a chance for a good crop but we need the rain. We've harvested sub 70 bushel corn and sub 30 bushel beans many times in my 40+ years so not everyone exaggerates from the I states. Hope you get some rain too! | |
