Subject: RE: Sweet corn population?

Ive been planting my sweet corn at 21-22,000 pop for several years after talking to an older farmer that sold sweet corn via roadside stand & to local grocery stores. Prior to that I was planting~ 26,000., This is for family use & give some to friends. This year I upped it to 24,500 as I felt we were getting too many small second ears. This is Ambrosia, not rr sweet corn. We use an old IH 400 that we gave $200 for over 10myrs ago to plant sweet corn . Spacing isn't the greatest but good enough. Last year my son planted some rr ready sweet corn with it, mistakenly reversed the "driven" & " driver" sprockets & ended up with over 42,000 emerged. Had ideal rains & every stalk put on an ear, on the small size but completely filled to the end., Not getting the rains this year, first planting is just starting to tussle so well see how it goes.
