Subject: RE: Owning sprayer vs hiring it

I don’t spray right now. Medical issues, I quit. But bought a sprayer. That I plan to fill with few hundred gallons water, learn how it works. Plan is next year do preplant, and corn. Beans I hire 22” rows. So keep hiring the post on those.
I used to spray with 500 gallon, 40’ booms. 1200 gallon trailer mounted tank. 540 pto set on 1000 tractor at idle. By time I got chemical in, minor checks @ 3/4 full.
Often sprayed 8-10 gpa depending. Preplant had lots of misses eyeballing it. Now Gps. Waas should be ok.
If you buy chemical in December you save more. Plus you can adjust.
Say 80 acres beans was wheat last year. But 40 more had corn, and lots of volunteer corn. You spray 80, add spray to kill corn, only pay chemical cost. I hit area no weeds, I add a gear. (Now reduce amount) Nasty weeds slow down (new unit has 5-15 increase switch)
Spraying for most is a moneymaker. But takes time, carries risk.
