If you have never had a sprayer, maybe start with a pull type. You can't usually get more gallons than self propelled will hold. The trade off is going slower. I pulled a 1200 gallon 90 foot Top Air sprayer with a John Deere 4555 for over six years. Sprayed 5-6,000 acres per year. Was ready for a nicer tractor with a little more power for the hills. We ended up buying a used Rogator 1274C for about 70k less than tractors I was looking at. Since getting it, I spray more acres, about 8-10k per year depending on the year. I spray about 5-7 mph faster than I did with the pull type.
If you get a pull type, you could still have some hired done if you don't have the time. If you spend 200k or more on a self propelled, your going to feel like you have to do it all yourself to justify having it. Remember, you don't have to have what the neighbors have, especially starting out. My guess would be most of them started out with smaller, cheaper untits before getting what they have now. | |
