I find this chart to be accurate. Seems like most irrigate at around r3 although you can see where water requirement begins dropping off. When I irrigate around r1 the crop drinks it up. Idk if it’s just because it’s not lapped yet and it’s drying out faster but after pod development and during fill, after irrigating, the ground stays wet a lot longer. Could just be it’s shaded. I like to ask myself, “if it rained an inch today, would I be happy? Or is there plenty of moisture already?”

Also With the variety I plant it seems like flowering coincides with rapid vegetative growth stage.
