| Couple problems with your drainage scenario. First, just because you design a system for a 3/8,1/2”+ drainage coefficient it does not mean the soil will release the water fast enough to achieve it. If your soil is tight you most likely need to split the middles to improve drainage. Another problem is the lateral length. Even though a drainage calculator says it will work doesn’t always mean that it will offer the best drainage. More than likely you have a bottom area where the lateral is a much flatter grade and the have a rise to the hill where more grade is gained fairly quickly, and in the half mile run what happens is you have taken water from the high ground into the tile and it accelerates going down hill,then at the low end of the run it flattens out and doesn’t get away from the lateral fast enough. That is why it’s actually better to tile low laying into one main and the high ground into a separate main. The ground will dry out much faster this way | |
