In 2012, we bought a 10 gallon DairyTech pasteurizer for $4500. I see that they are now $9500: https://dairytechinc.com/store/adda-pasteurizer/

We feed about 15 calves per day on average. I think we were using about half a bag of milk replacer per day which is about $45 per day. So about $16,000 per year.

Waste milk is free, but it can contain some micro-organisms that we don't want to feed to calves. Pasteurizing makes it better for the calves and we don't have to dump it in the pit. Win/win.

I'm sure that you could get waste milk from the dairy where you buy the calves. If I don't have any waste, I will dump high SCC cows to feed the calves, which lowers my tank SCC and increases the value of the milk I sell.

At current milk price, if I had to buy milk at full price, it would be worth about $40 a day to feed 15 calves. So it is still less than the replacer I was using back in 2012.
