Subject: RE: Tandem dump truck/grain truck use

Owensville, MO
I do exactly that. This is my International 4900 with 16ft rock bed. I built the sides out of two 2x12 and one 2x10 which gives me right about 32 inches extra height. Chains in an X on the inside and 2x4s on edge across the top that the tarp rolls on. Easily fits 500 bushel and I've had close to 540 on of some very heavy test weight corn. Could easily add 15-20 more bushel if I had bows on top for the tarp. Tailgate I made out of some 2x3 tubing with a sheet of 1/8" for the skin. Used a $40 grain gate from Tractor Supply. 2 of us can pull the sides and switch the tailgate in an hour and then I have a good dumptruck to use on the farm for the rest of the year. I've probably got less than a third of the money in this truck than an equal condition tandem grain truck would cost today and I get use out of it year round.
