Subject: RE: Auto Start Well Generator

Faunsdale, AL
Nothing different from a backup generator with auto-start capability. Most generator controllers are controlled by a set of contacts closing and opening. How much logic the transfer switch normally supplies and how programmable the control is is going to vary some, but it shouldn’t take anything exotic to let a pressure or float switch control a generator.

Probably the biggest thing would be the length of the on/off cycle time on a well vs a backup generator. Probably need a big pressure tank and or a cycle-stop valve or a large reservoir tank to make sure the generator runs long enough for reliable performance. Could also program an extended generator cool down run time after the pump shuts off to catch the next pump cycle when water is being used at a normal rate from a pressure tank type system.

I think adequate run time for battery recharging and avoiding wear and tear on the starter from frequent starts would be the biggest challenges.
