not real sure in that area, but near there many wells have real bad sulfur water from old oil wells. And some of them have traces of natural gas and some have little bit of oil. They pump it in the pond, and most of the bad stuff airs out, and then further filter and treat the water in the house. I have dug some ponds near Findlay, Ohio for this reason.
