The actually best but not legal to deter deer is a 22.Yes,,if its bitten by a 22 it will never come back to that place,,and it will never bring its young,,it will feel pain,,if you dump it it with a 30-06 it tells no one of its fear,, of course it has no young either....the 22 method is much less noticeable in the noise dept.

Finally gave away my 30-06 IF you ever shoot out the passenger side of a vehicle with a 30-06 (from the drivers side with the barrel tip still in the vehicle ) you will not hear (ever again) but will understand
