| A GOOD driver for $100,000 is pay able. The trouble is the average or poor drivers think they are good.
Let me put this a different way. 5% of the trucks will make good money on any given day. If you are lucky 50% will break even. 35% will loose money. The other 10% will make enough to pay you wages for your time dealing with them.
I remember when I sold out. We had 14 full time owner operators and 6 or 7 guys who we brokered to part time. 2 trucks together accounted for 50% of the gross revenue. I was the number 2 truck. The 2 high gross guys did the loads no one else wanted. I also did most of the maintence.
The guy that bought me out wanted to know why I sold out. I was upfront and told him I could put the money in the bank, do nothing and make about half as much. I didn't mention it freed up about 100 hours a week.
I always made good money trucking. Most years I made enough to cover the lost farm income. So basically all that work for nothing. | |
