Walter, I’m sure your in the right track. Another way to verify no bad bearings is stick a wrench on the hex shaft to turn the meters. The meters turn fairly easily. I had a bearing go out in my planter meter this spring and it took a hour of disconnecting chains and turning hex shafts to find the culprit. I have also had the set screw back off on the speed encoder so it would give false readings, dig in the seed trench and the rate was right but the population monitor would jump all over the place occasionally.
