Southern Mn | After someone posted on here that hiniker finally made a adapter for the 1000 to use the 6000 3 piece shares and replaceable points, I bought 4 of them to try out. One for each wing tip and 1 for behind each wheel.
Went to install them today, so far not real impressed. It’s taking a fair bit of work to get them on for something that should just bolt up.
Looks like the holes that the sweep bolt onto were punched before it was pressed to shape. I’ve had to drill out each hole so there a little slop in them so the share and bolt comes down square.
When I went to bolt it to the row unit, the front support was welded all the way around so it wouldn’t sit up tight like it should. Ended up grinding most of the weld off the front part and a little on each row unit to get it to sit right.
Then whoever at the factor tightened the hardware up on it, they tightened the carriage bolt up so tight the square collar dug into the round holes. The holes all had to be reamed out so the bolt would go through like they should.
I dont think the shares line up with the point the best, but they should work. We used to have a 6000 8 row, seemed like the fit was better on that.
What I thought should be a easy job has turned into more work. Just thought I’d pass along what I’ve found if anyone else is thinking of switching over.
