Subject: RE: Lucked out...Loose drain plugs in sprayer pump

Leesburg, Ohio
nebfarmer: No, I've not drained the pump in 10 years. Never had need to. It lives in a heated shop, so never gets winterized, and tank and booms always get rinsed at the end of every day. Strainers get cleaned every morning, or every other morning, depending on what material I'm spraying. One mix I use, the strainers need cleaned every other load. So I think the whole system stays fairly clean. At least I hardly every plug a tip, and I never have used tip screens. When the plug came out last night when I got back to the shop and shut down to check it out, the rinsate draining out of the pump was almost totally clear (had some Dawn in it) and no grit or slime was coming out.

Why do you feel the need to drain the pump often?
