Subject: Lucked out...Loose drain plugs in sprayer pump

Leesburg, Ohio
Just finishing up spraying the post pass on corn last night before dark.
Rinsing out in the last field as I always do, and on the last rinse, noticed a pretty serious drip of rinsate off the bottom shield under the main pump on the 4830.
Couldn't tell if it was a pump seal, a function valve seal, a flange fitting, or a broken product hose.
Finished rinsing and let it drip...by that time it was really not a drip any more, it was running.
Investigating back at the shop, noticed it was wetter around one of the pump drain plugs. Touched the plug and it came off in my hand.
Thought it had corroded and broken off and left part of the plug in the pump.
Turns out it was just barely screwed into the threads on the pump to begin with! Green paint on all the threads indicated it was that way from the factory!
Checked the other two drain plugs around the pump housing, and they were the same way! I have no idea how they held like that for almost 10 years with no previous leaks.

So...check your pump drain plugs, especially if you have a Deere sprayer!
