Nothing emissions wise on your 310 is taking any power. If it weren’t for fault codes, you could unbolt the exhaust at the turbo and not see any difference in power whatsoever and there wouldn’t be a single “emissions” component on the engine. A slight difference in timing of the engine but that would be it. The only way to know where the machine is at for sure is to run it on the dyno. I do think there is a little lack of low end power on newer equipment from trying to squeeze more power out of smaller displacement engines but, in your case, you’re comparing the older 8.3L Cummins to the 9L Iveco. Bore and stroke come into play a bit on low end power but I would imagine the difference is minimal between the two. I would say your 285 may have been a little above rated HP and I’d want to run the 310 on the dyno. But, at the end of the day, you’re only talking 25 hp between them and your expectations may have been higher as far as seat of the pants feel.
