Subject: Newer tractors with more power not doing as well as older ones?

I had a conversation with a neighbor that told me he upgraded to a larger HP tractor and he didnt think it pulled as well as his older one with less power. I told him we had the same expereince with a 2006 - MX Magnum 285 (tier 2) that was supposed to be 285hp. We traded it for a 2011 - 310 Magnum (tier 3) and we didnt think it performed as well as the 285. Was our 285 just stronger than it was supposed to be, or was the 310 just weaker? They were both bought new. We are wondering if the emissions standards on the newer ones are taking away some power.
