Not good on a fresh overhaul to let idle but if it had a turbo they let them run so the turbo is lubricated. Hauling equipment with a turbo the wind can spin the turbo through the exhaust and wear it out in short order.
Our gleaner M3 was idling on the lowboy when they hauled it from Madison to east of Green Bay.
This was a Versatile tractor. The exhaust points straight up in the air. And I’m not big believer in that myth anyway. I suppose if you were hauling a tractor from coast to coast you should cover the exhaust. But nobody around here does. I mean all the dealers and construction outfits never do.
And besides leaving the engine run just to lube the turbo is just stupid when you can just cover the exhaust. My neighbor who has mechanic knowledge and ability was livid when the truck pulled in. I would be too. Especially if that’s the excuse given for leaving it running. |
