Theres no hard and fast rule, just depends on the hybrid, the weather, and how badly you need to have it hilled. I had some I broke off a bit, but it HAD to be hilled or I wouldnt be able to water and wouldnt have had anything to combine come fall.

Youll know in the first pass or so, try to do it when its hot and humid if you can.
