Subject: Any clover experts here?

red river valley se of fargo
I have a half section I had to pp. I have it seeded to berseem clover now at 15lbs/acre.

The field was field cultivated, clover spread then harrowed. We have caught a few small showers on it and the clover has emerged.

The problem is it's terribly slow. Like, the there's no way it will compete with the weeds.

My original plan was to put these fields in spring wheat next year so I was hoping for a little nitrogen fixation from the clover. I also have a neighbor lined up to harvest a cutting of hay if it looks ok.

It's still too soon to make any decisions but it looks like it'll be a total fail. Unless the clover really explodes and I can spot mow some of the weediest areas I'm afraid I wasted like $50/acre on clover seed.

Anybody with experience have any input?
