Subject: RE: Biloxi Mississippi area

Franklinton, LA
Other posters have mentioned some very good attractions. A few years back they had an excursion boat in Biloxi where tourists could go out and help them catch shrimp with a shrimp net. I am assuming the boat is still operating. They also have excursions boats in Biloxi and Gulfport that go out to Ship Island where Fort MA is located. It has been restored and is open for tourists. The beach on the south side of the island is really nice. The Gulf Islands National Seashore is located south of US 90 on the east side of Ocean Springs.

A little over 150 years back they built a north - south railroad from Gulfport to Jackson, Memphis and St Louis. They also built an east to west railroad across the Gulf Coast. For the first time they could quickly ship iced down fresh seafood to distant cities. During the next few years people from over 20 countries came to the area to work in the seafood industry. The Seafood Industry Museum in Biloxi is nice.

If you want to earn style points in your peer group Mary Mahoney's in Biloxi has very good food. Phonecia in Ocean Springs is also very good. Harbor View Cafe in Long Beach is also on my list of good places to eat. The Palace and Beau Rivage Casinos have very good all you can eat buffets with a good variety of average quality food. If you are interested in ???, Twin Peaks is in the shopping center in the northeast quadrant of I10 and I110. They also have several dozen other restaurants that serve very good food.

Over half the rainwater runoff from the USA runs into the Gulf of Mexico within 100 miles of Gulfport. The water is a lot clearer if you go east to Dauphin Island or Gulf Shores, AL.

I hope you have a very enjoyable trip. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
