Subject: Cover crop after sod

Western NY
Picked up 20 acres of sod ground last week that was in CRP. Strip tilled 10 ac but it isn't drying. Tried planting some beans but the slots weren't closing and saw lots of slugs. Going to spray the sod with Roundup/Dicamba then do a cover crop then wheat this fall. Plan B is cover crop now then beans next spring. Don't want to leave the sod all summer to kill in the fall. What would be a good cover crop or cover crop mix for this situation? The strips are already there so I'm tempted to try sunflowers with finger meters. Would Tractor Supply sunflowers work?
