I'm a lot less acres than BobC and perhaps a bit tighter with $. I replace the 2 wheels closest to each row after ~80 acres per row. So 500 acres of use with a 15' hoe. I then move all the wheels one space away from the row and throw away the wheels farthest from the row that are the most worn.

Basically, if the spoons have lost the squared off edge on the tip, I don't want to rely on them directly over the row.
