Subject: Moisture sensors for irrigation timing

East Central Arkansas

Have the moisture sensors in both corn and soybean fields. We use four sensors at 6", 12", 18" and 30". My corn is over head high not tasseling yet. I say V 8 stage. So is it possible that corn is already pulling moisture from 30" deep? This field was subsoiled fall before last in the row with a paratill. Bedded up and planted to twin row soybeans and had corn planted notill back on the old soybean rows. The probe used for installing the moisture sensors went in the ground easy. The moisture down there is going somewhere just hope the corn is using it. It's been really hot here the last several days and the corn does show heat stress during the hot part of the day. The readings and program not calling for irrigation on the corn yet but it won't be long with these hot dry days.
