East-Central Ontario
At one point this township had the most gravel of any in Ontario. Most of the gravel used for building and expanding Toronto in the 30s-50s came from here by train, they even had a steam powered funicular hauling gravel up from the bottom of the pits to the crush plant and siding.
Gravel is all on the north sides of the hills here where the ice age ground the tops off the mountains as they receded.

I was digging a trench last week and hit a good layer of armour stone 18” down, made the job a lot bigger. A lot of the older houses here were built with them. One of the original farmsteads on our place was gutted in a fire in 1929 so they ended up taking all the big stones from the buildings by train to Union Station in Toronto and used them for the lower level walls in Maple Leaf Gardens
