Subject: RE: Stabilizing a block basement wall

S.E. Iowa
We had a 9000 dollar estimate to do my sons place. Turns out the guy was a screwball and it got ugly. The sheriff came and told the guy to leave. He is no longer in business.
We got a guy to come jack the house up, tear the block out set forms and pour a new basement for 23000. We helped and did much of the work ourselves to keep costs down. We did the flay ourselves. We added a 16 x 16 addition which sort of isn't a addition because it is all one pour. Also went with 9 foot walls. This has been 6 years ago.
If there is any way you can do away with a block wall it's better. You do all that work and when you are done you still have a block wall.
Personally i can in no way ever understand why one would put in a block basement.
