IL | I’m asking for some ideas on stabilizing a block basement wall, and drying the basement, after getting a $16,000 est.
I’ll attach some pics to illustrate.
At about row 2-3 from the top, the blocks have shifted inward, about 1/4-1/2” . I would like to pull out to plumb, and stabilize .
In discussion with someone with an engineering background, I was planning on running 3/4” threaded rod 10’ out and downward into the yard to an anchor ( or poured concrete ), threaded on the inside to be able to draw the wall out . The inside end of the rod would be run through a “ ladder “ bracket of 1”x2” tubing vertical, with a tubing cross member, ( picture a ladder with 2-3 rungs). With the vertical tubing catching 2 block seams 16” apart .
There would be a total of 4-6 of these ladders with rods
The outside of the wall would be exposed via a mini ex.
The house was built in the 1950’s and we’re expecting to not have a footing tile, which we would add
The outside of wall would be power washed so we could cover with tar/fiber, then cover with sone sort of plastic/poly sheet, to direct water down to the tile
Finally filling the trench 2/3 of the way up with 1 1/2 “ washed rock , and rest of the way up against the foundation.
In all the years, part of problem is setting of the ground level 4+” against the foundation. Which will build up much higher, adding window wells .
The pro est was for their part of stabilizing the wall . Going farther out and deeper with power screwed in anchors
I’m limited on labor availability, but that seemed like a lot of money .
Your critique and ideas are welcome
Hopefully the pictures will help explain
