western iowa,by Denison | 3/4 plywood-lot of 2x8s and glue-a 1919 pamplet on building them-inside is 2x6-then 2 2x8s on top side and bottom lateral.
at the time steel I beam was a little higher-we made the mistake of using 3/4 inch bolts to mount on end beams-1/2 inch bolts would have been easier-its hard to find a 3/4 inch 12 inch drill bit-using cable underneath-which added about 20,000# more strength tighten like a piano string-could place for birds to sit i guess
actually found the wood beam idea in a structural 1919 book-plywood box beam and then I change a few things-grk screws-air nailer-glue-Adam said he would not build them again-I look at them when I load out manure and marvel at the idea -that we built them ourselves
