Southeast WI | Our younger daughter is pretty good at sports. At that age 9-10 that separation started and even tho other kids weren't that much better than her the parents turned it all political pushing their kids forward. Lot of kids rode the bench at that age and how the hell do you develop talent if the best 5-6 always play basketball. Fast forward 6-7 years one of the pushy moms tells me it's sad we don't have school spirit and have the student body support "the players". Well the rest of the student body wasn't given a chance when they were little and believe me they remembered that. Daughter #2 would go play sax at the game as required and then came home. 4H and FFA made more of a lasting impact. She's had tremendous scholarship opportunities at graduation and through college at the UW.
The sports kids? It was laughable the amount of money given to them, as in almost nothing at graduation. They did nothing for the community (as a whole, some exceptions) except chase a ball. | |
