South Central Iowa | I was talking to a cattle feeding mentor a few days ago about the upcoming heat. He says this sounds absolutely backwards, but go break some stalk bales and bed the heck out of them. Said rather than open concrete or bed pack (which is what these lots are) or black dirt, all those absorb heat and bake cattle. Scatter stalks as a buffer and the heat won't build up as bad. Worked well so far, next week looks to be all week in the 90's, will keep trying it. That, and I switched to feeding at 8 pm because it only takes a little over an hour, know that's not an option for everyone. | |
