I have never heard of it being illegal to road a combine in Alberta with a straight-cut header on. I used to road my 36' macdon everywhere. The only reason I don't road my 40' is there are roads I can't get down due to signs or trees. Now having said that, we are very careful about when and where we go with the headers on. I've watched my local BTO take multiple combines down hiway 36 with 40's on, and just lateral tilt the feeder house so cars can drive underneath. Now that he's moved up to 45' and 50' headers, he takes them off.

You could be right, it is something I was told years ago from a farmer. That is why I said "I believe" and not "it is". It may have been that it is illegal to do it at night with no lights on the ends of the header that they guy was saying.......... or maybe I dreamt the whole thing up. Don't recall for sure, it was a LONG time ago. |
