Subject: RE: Our onion crop this year harvested

East Central Arkansas

I did a poor job of controlling the weeds and grasses in ours this year. I did keep them clean early on but lost the battle later with all the rain we had. The plants just never really grew like they should have after planting and I am surprised at how well they actually did. We had some unseasonable cold weather after planting and I am pretty sure I had chemical drift from burndown  sprays sprayed on nearby fields. I though I was going to have problems harvesting because of all the weeds and grasses but we did pretty good. Had some places I could barely see the row on onions for all the grass. I ended up running a push mower through the middles. I had to spray myself good with Off to keep the chiggers from getting me.
