I notice none of the wagons with hay loaders have a section that could be filled at rear of wagon and then wheeled to front before filling the back of the wagon.

I am sure there is a name for those, had one when I was young. I got to drive the horses and then switched to a baler when I was big enough to handle those.
As a kid helped tramp the hay into the mow and also got to pull the hayfork rope back up after bundle was dropped so man on wagon could pull hay fork back for next bundle.

Yes we used to work at hay, loose and bales on hot days too.
Mowing bales away when loft was near full under the tin roof was a way to get warmed up!
