NW Illinois Stephenson county | I would not plant oats for summer time. Many decades ago I was bound and determined to get limestone put on a field before I planted oats and alfalfa so it got planted near the end of may. It was not the worse oats I ever raised BUT it was loaded with rust! Every time I started the Massey Harris Clipper combine after dumping the bin of oats the combine belched a giant brownish red cloud of dust. I doubt cattle would like eating rust infested oat forage. |
