East Central SD | I'm on our towns economic development board, and just recently dealt with this issue. First, Casey's will do extensive soil sampling to check for fuel contamination, and require a certain number of clean tests before they will sell the property. I believe they told us that they have never sold a property in less than a year after closing it. They also have an extensive list of restrictions that go with the property, regardless of owner, for I believe 15 years. The restrictions I saw allowed for no sale of: gas, diesel, propane, pizza, sub sandwiches, prepackaged to-go meals, and off sale liquor. There were probably more that I don't remember. Basically, if Casey's sells it, you can't (except for soda pop). Our old Casey's building is currently being remodeled into a mexican restaurant, which apparently, they will allow to sell on sale liquor. It was definitely a challenge to find someone to fill it that could abide by the rules. | |
