Kingston,Mi | My understanding of the early history of the Houghton Co. Airport in Hancock Michigan is that it was partially funded by the Canadian government as an emergency landing field for trainee Canadian Forces pilots. We didn't want them needing to land at K.I. SAWYER south of Marquette Michigan. During most of the time in operation as a U.S. Airforce base it was under S.A.C. with the task of protecting against enemy bombers (not Canadian, but Soviet Block).
For hydro70guy, the Canadians will get the last laugh on that as Customary Units (Imperial) are defined using metric values and have been since the 19th century. So hang in there with the other 2 nations still using the Customary or Imperial units, Manyamar and Liberia. | |
