Texas | I have a group of heifers that have 300-400#. Calves on them. Born late January/feb.
These were all home raised heifers, I bred them pretty early so they all had calves under 24months old, a couple aren’t even 24 still.
My grass is great, there’s mineral and salt out, they have been wormed with safeguard and have had fly blocks (didn’t work good). I try to keep my stuff on the fat end of perfect body condition and these are slipping off to thin.
What would you do? Wean calves, creep feed calves? The heifers are with regular cows and I’m not interested in feeding everyone while they stand in knee high grass. Or just let them be thin for a bit? This is my first set of heifers calving out so I’m trying to learn. | |
