Subject: A "what would you do"....

RR Valley, ND; MN native
There is back history here I will skip. But, shorter background:

After grandparents passed back in the 80s, a aunt ended up with part of the farm. Dad was able to rent part of that part from her for a while but at some point that ended. Her husband and now my cousin have been farming it since. After Dad retired, his remaining portion has been rented out and ownership is with my Mom now. Same renter has had it for over 20yrs now and takes good care of things.

Apparently, recently my cousin (and I suspect more likely a hired steering wheel holder of his) drifted over the line with tillage and dug up some of the standing/emerged corn on "our" side. Our renter is PO'd of course.

I got a couple texts from him about this and how unhappy he is. I am 3hrs from there so can't just go look.

Do I get involved and risk stirring the pot with my relatives? Things were pretty tense with them years ago when all the inheritance stuff went down but have been mostly OK for some time.

I think the renter should be the one to get after my cousin and me stay out of it.

thoughts?
